Owen Pickering left the Penguins' 3-0 loss to the Devils on Saturday between the second and third periods and didn't return to the game. Mike Sullivan didn't have much of an update on Pickering after the game other than that he was dealing with an upper-body injury.
Pickering was hit late in the second period along the boards by the Devils' Paul Cotter. He only took one 27-second shift after that, a shift that led to the Devils' opening goal.
If Pickering is to miss any time, the Penguins still have Ryan Graves as an option to slot right back on the left side after Graves was once again a healthy scratch on Saturday in order to get P.O Joseph into the lineup. If a recall is desired to give the Penguins seven defensemen, Sebastian Aho returned to Wilkes-Barre's lineup on Saturday for the first time since he was injured on Nov. 29. Jack St. Ivany remains injured, and Mac Hollowell is about to be away to join Team Canada in the Spengler Cup. If a defenseman is needed and the team thinks Aho is too fresh off his injury to get the call, Nate Clurman would presumably just come right back up.
